Twelve features, five fixes: what shipped to MantaGlow this week

Long week. Most of this list came out of real shows my beta users were running, with real problems they Slacked me about at 7pm on a doors-at-8 night. That's the best and worst thing about shipping live event production software. You can't tell someone 'we'll fix it next sprint' when their show starts in an hour. Here's everything that landed between last Friday and this morning. ## Travel got a massive overhaul If your crew is flying in from multiple cities, travel in MantaGlow used to be rough. You'd type in 'LAX' and the system would try to resolve it as a street address. Flight numbers were just free text. Return trips didn't really exist as a concept, you had to create two separate one-way trips and hope you got the dates right. Fixed. All of it. ### Airport codes are first-class now Type 'PHX' or 'LAX' or 'JFK' and the system knows what you mean. It auto-fills the airport name, the city, and uses the code everywhere in the UI. Your travel card shows the code, not a 40-character address string. The crew call sheet shows the code. The exports show the code. This is how your crew actually talks about flights. Nobody says 'meet at 1800 North 24th Street at 4pm.' They say 'PHX at 4.' ### Flight numbers and auto-return trips Add a flight number and the system looks it up. Add an outbound trip, check the 'auto return' box, and the return trip shows up in that crew member's itinerary with a placeholder you can fill in once the return flight is booked. This used to take 4 or 5 minutes per crew member. Now it's about 30 seconds. <!-- screenshot: travel card with airline branding and flight info --> ### Travel cards with airline branding Small thing, honest. The travel card on the crew view now shows the airline's colors and wordmark. Delta card is Delta-looking. Southwest card is Southwest-looking. It's purely cosmetic but it makes the dashboard scannable when you have 14 crew flying in on 6 different airlines. ## Schedule: copy days and CSV import The ask was 'I build the same day plan for Wed, Thu, and Fri of a 3-day show. Please let me not type it three times.' Reasonable. ### Copy days Click a day in the schedule, click duplicate, pick the target day. Done. It copies the session blocks, the crew assignments, and the notes. You can then edit whatever's different. ### CSV import If you already have a run of show in a spreadsheet, drop the CSV in and it'll map columns to fields. Headers like 'time', 'item', 'department' just work. Weird headers you can drag-map manually. This one wasn't fun to build because CSVs from the real world are a mess. People put dates in every format that exists. Times come in with and without timezones. Someone had a column literally called 'time (but sometimes duration)'. We handle more of those cases than I expected to. <!-- screenshot: CSV import column mapping --> ## Venues create themselves now When you started a new project and put in a venue name that didn't exist, the system used to stop you. Go to a different screen, create the venue, come back, pick it. Five clicks, three screens, one rage quit. Now: type the venue name, hit tab, and it creates a venue placeholder with the name you typed. You can fill in the address and load-in details later from the venue screen. The project keeps moving. ## The truck packing bug that kept biting Okay, this one. The same bug got 'fixed' twice in the changelog because it came back. Sorry. The behavior: you mark a case as 'packed.' The items inside the case should inherit that status. They weren't. So your crew chief would look at the pack sheet and see 'case packed, but 6 of 12 items inside show as unpacked' and have no idea what was actually on the truck. The first fix was optimistic client-side only. If you refreshed the page, the cascade didn't persist. The second fix does it at the API layer so the state actually saves. Tested with 200 cases. Works now. If it comes back a third time I owe the beta group a round. ## Equipment release on project close Same category of bug. You mark a project as cancelled, closed, or wrapped. The equipment that was checked out to that project should return to available inventory. It wasn't. You'd close a wrap and the gear would stay 'out' indefinitely, which made your inventory numbers drift and made the next project unable to pull what should've been available. Fixed at the status-change hook. All three end states (cancel, close, wrap) now cascade a release. Backfilled for projects closed in the last 30 days so nobody has to manually fix their inventory counts. <!-- screenshot: equipment inventory view after release cascade --> ## Smaller things worth mentioning - **Crew roles by department**: Pick a department (audio, lighting, video, etc.) and the role dropdown shows the right options for that department. No more scrolling past 60 unrelated roles to find A2. - **3-column desktop layout**: The app looks like it was actually designed for a 1440px monitor now, not an iPhone stretched horizontally. If you're on mobile, nothing changes. - **Share endpoint crash**: A regex in the share link validator was matching nothing, which made the endpoint 500 when any share was accessed. This one was embarrassing. Turnaround was about 40 minutes from first report. ## What's next Lasso integration. Check-in and check-out for real gear, tied to the truck packing layer so the cases you pack in MantaGlow actually reflect what's out of the cage. That's the next big push. If you want to poke at any of this, beta is still open. I read every bug report, and I'm trying to bring the turnaround on critical bugs down from 72 hours to 24.

    • Fixed

      Fixed share endpoint crash

Share endpoint was crashing when focusMemberId got used before it was declared. Not anymore.

    • Fixed

Pack status updates cascade to case contentsTruckPack

When you mark a case as packed, everything inside it updates instantly. Optimistic updates now work all the way down. Feels snappier.

    • Fixed

      Cancel/close/wrap now releases equipment

Fixed the thing where canceling, closing, or wrapping a project didn't properly release equipment or reset pack status. Everything gets cleaned up correctly now.

    • New

Auto-create venue location on project start

New project? We automatically create your venue location and use it to suggest schedule locations. One less thing to set up before you can start planning.

    • New

Copy schedule days + CSV import

Duplicate any day in your schedule with one click. Or import a whole schedule from CSV. No more rebuilding similar days from scratch.

    • New

      Travel cards with airline branding

Travel cards got a facelift. Bigger layout, airline logos and colors. Makes it way easier to scan your crew's flights at a glance.

    • New

      3-column desktop layout

Redesigned the whole overview. Crew list on the left, map in the center, schedule and travel on the right. Everything you need visible at once. No more jumping between tabs.

    • New

      Flight numbers and auto-return trips

Add flight numbers to your travel cards. Creating a return trip? We auto-populate it based on your outbound. Travel dialog feels way more complete now.

    • New

      Predefined crew roles by department

Each department now has standard roles ready to go (A1, Gaffer, Production Coordinator, etc). Pick from the dropdown instead of typing the same titles over and over. Edit inline or use the crew form.

    • New

      Airport codes instead of addresses

Type PHX, JFK, LAX instead of typing out full airport addresses. We resolve them automatically. Because nobody wants to type "Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport" when they're building a travel schedule at 2am.

    • Fixed

      Fixed share link crash

Share endpoint stopped crashing when focusMemberId was used before being declared. You probably didn't notice but it was annoying.

    • Fixed

Pack status updates actually work nowTruckPack

When you mark a case as packed, all the gear inside updates too. Sounds obvious but it wasn't doing that before. Sorry about that.

    • Fixed

Fixed equipment release on project close

Closing, canceling, or wrapping a project now properly releases all equipment and resets pack status. Also fixed the travel count that was lying to you in overview.

    • New

Copy days and import CSV schedules

Repeat the same schedule across multiple days with copy-day. Or import a whole CSV if you've already built it elsewhere. Overview map now goes full-width and crew sorts by department.

    • New

      Venues create themselves now

When you make a new project, we auto-create the venue location. Schedule blocks suggest locations as you type. One less annoying step between you and getting work done.

    • New

      Desktop gets a real layout

Three columns on desktop: crew list left, map in the center where it belongs, schedule and travel on the right. Finally feels like production software instead of a stretched phone app.

    • New

      Flight tracking that doesn't suck

Added flight number fields and auto-create return trips. The travel dialog now shows airline branding and a bigger layout so you can actually read it. No more squinting at tiny Delta logos.

    • New

      Predefined roles by department

No more typing "Video Engineer" 47 times. Pick your role from a dropdown that actually knows the difference between an A1 and an A2. Works in assign dialog, inline edit, and crew forms.

    • Improved

Blog and changelog got a visual refresh

Cleaned up the blog and changelog pages so they're easier to read and navigate. Same info, just way nicer to look at.

    • New

      Added feedback + deploy widgets

There's now a feedback widget and a deploy status banner. Built on Darian Platform so they show up everywhere without extra code. Makes it way easier to tell us when something breaks or see when new stuff ships.

    • Fixed

Fixed blurry text on Windows Chrome

If you're on Windows using Chromium, text inside backdrop-filter elements looked like garbage. Not anymore. Crisp text everywhere now.

    • New

Deep links + embed mode for the editor

You can now jump straight to a specific project with /editor/:projectId URLs. Plus there's an ?embed=true mode for when you want the editor inside other tools. React Router under the hood makes this all feel instant.

    • Fixed

      Sign-out actually works now

Fixed the annoying thing where signing out didn't fully clear your session. HttpOnly cookies need server-side clearing, so now it properly hits the hub endpoint and wipes everything. You won't get stuck in weird half-logged-out states anymore.

    • New

Mission Control now tracks what you're actually doing

We're logging real product events now - when shows get created, when camera plans get added. This is the foundation for building features that actually understand your workflow instead of just guessing.

    • New

Added feedback widget and deploy banner

You can now send feedback directly from the app, and there's a banner that shows when we push updates. Part of the bigger Darian Platform rollout.

    • Fixed

No more blurry text on Windows Chrome

If you're on Windows using Chrome and the text looked fuzzy inside those frosted glass UI elements, that's fixed. Chromium rendering quirk. Gone now.

    • Fixed

      Sign out actually works now

Fixed the annoying bug where signing out didn't clear your cookies properly. Now it hits the server, nukes everything on .darianharmon.com, and boots you to login like it should've from day one.

    • New

Mission Control now tracks what you're actually doing

Started tracking when you inspect panels, log defects, and create QC reports. Nothing changes for you, but now we can see what's getting used and what's not. Helps us fix the right stuff.

    • New

      Platform feedback and deploy widgets

Added Darian Platform feedback widget and deploy status banner. Makes it easier to report issues and see when new stuff ships.

    • Fixed

Fixed blurry text on Windows Chrome

Chromium on Windows was making text inside backdrop-filter elements super blurry. Found a workaround that fixes it.

    • Fixed

      Sign-out actually works

HttpOnly cookies needed server-side clearing. Sign-out now properly clears cookies on .darianharmon.com and redirects you to login instead of just sitting there.

    • Fixed

      Color picker defaults fixed

Primary color picker now starts with the actual rendered colors instead of random defaults. Opacity slider also works properly now.

    • New

      Mission Control tracking

Started tracking layout_created, pixel_map_generated, and layout_exported events in Mission Control. Makes it easier to see what's actually getting used.

    • Improved

      Pattern controls get better

Added invert pattern option, better disabled panel darkness, and cleaned up the tabbed screen display UI. Lots of little things that make patterns easier to work with.

    • New

      Deep linking and embed mode

You can now link directly to projects with /editor/:projectId and add ?embed=true to hide the chrome. Good for iframe embeds or sending someone straight to a specific project.

    • New

Screen export caching + generation API

Exports now cache to the Hub and there's a full generation API for versioned storage. Your exported screens integrate with inventory tracking automatically.

    • New

      Actually transparent screens

New opacity slider makes screens truly transparent with backdrop blur. Makes your background elements visible through the screen instead of just darkening them.

    • New

Primary color picker for every pattern

Every pattern can now have its own primary color. Plus a new transparent pattern and the dark color auto-tracks when you change themes. Way more control over your screen designs.

    • New

      Group-aware everything in the editor

Selection, movement, lock, and visibility all respect your groups now. No more accidentally moving stuff that's grouped together.

    • New

Added feedback widget and deploy notifications

You can now yell at me directly from inside Pack'd with the new feedback widget. Also added a banner that shows up when we ship updates so you know when to refresh.

    • Fixed

Fixed blurry text on Windows Chrome

If you're on Windows using Chrome or Edge and the text looked weirdly blurry inside certain panels, that's fixed. Turns out backdrop-filter and Chromium on Windows don't play nice—found a workaround.

    • Fixed

      Sign-out actually works now

Fixed the janky sign-out flow that wasn't clearing your session properly. Now it hits the server to nuke those HttpOnly cookies and sends you back to login like it should've from day one.

    • New

Now tracking what you actually do in Pack'dTruckPack

Added event tracking so we can see when you create trucks, place items, and share packs. No creepy stuff—just trying to figure out which features people actually use so we can make them better.

    • Improved

      Added feedback and deploy widgets

You'll now see a feedback button and a deploy status banner in the Darian Platform. Quick way to tell us when something breaks or see what just shipped.

    • Fixed

      Fixed blurry text on Windows

If you're running Chromium on Windows, text was getting fuzzy inside backdrop-filter elements. Not anymore. Should look crisp now.

    • New

We can finally see what you're actually doing

Dropped product analytics into Mission Control. Now we track when shows get created, cues get called, and collaborators get invited. This isn't Big Brother stuff—we just want to know which features actually get used so we can make them better.

Your next show starts here.

Start free, invite your crew, and bring your next show in. Crew and viewers never need a seat.
