How a show runs

Three workspaces carry a live show: switch the pictures, play the graphics, feed every destination. Each one is a click or a number key away.

  1. On air · Switch

Preview it, take it, move on.

Preview on the left, program on the right, every source as a tile with live tally. The same bin fires graphics, so one operator can run a conference alone.

    • 1 to 9 preview, Space cuts, Enter runs the transition
    • Cut, mix, dip, push, slide, zoom, wipes and graphic stingers
    • Manual T-bar, or a MIDI fader mapped to it
Switch workspace with the input bin: every source as a tile with PGM and PVW tally, including two designed layouts and a camera showing no signal.
  2. Preview · Graphics

Graphics that keep up with the room.

Take a Look and the bug, strap and crawl build in on their own timing. Retype a name in a pinned field and it changes on air, mid-animation.

    • Show variables such as {$session} fill every graphic at once
    • Preview overlay while you edit, program untouched
    • Auto-out timers and countdowns per graphic
Graphics workspace: a list of graphic layers with Take buttons, pinned quick-edit fields, the editing preview and show variables.
  3. Next · Outputs

Stream, record and feed the venue.

Each output chooses program or clean feed and its own audio bus, so the stream gets graphics and the IMAG screens don't.

    • RTMP/RTMPS and SRT; streams at the same bitrate share one encoder
    • NDI® out, and a virtual camera for Zoom on Windows 11
    • Program and ISO recording, with alerts when you're live without a recording or the disk runs low
The Outputs list: program master and ISO recordings, a YouTube stream, SRT to the venue, NDI program, a Zoom camera and a multiview grab.

A graphics engine, not a titler.

Design on a timeline, theme it once, feed it from a spreadsheet. Everything renders inside the switcher, so there is no second machine or browser source to keep in sync.

The graphics designer: a speaker strap on the canvas, an element list, per-element properties and an animation timeline with in and out tracks.
The designer. Every element has its own in and out animation on the timeline; the preview plays it without touching program.

Timeline designer

Boxes, text, images, lines and video boxes, each with its own in and out. Loops for tickers and carousels; plates that resize to the name and collapse empty fields.

Themes and Looks

A theme sets colours, fonts and corner radius for every graphic at once. A Look takes a bug, a strap and a crawl in together, staggered to the millisecond.

Variables and pins

Type {$room} once and it fills every graphic that uses it. Pin the fields you change all show to a quick-edit strip above the preview.

Data-bound supers

Point a lower third at an Excel or CSV file or a Google Sheets link, bind fields to columns and step through rows on air. Timers and countdowns bind the same way.

The graphics library: 256 starting points sorted by show type, with name straps, breaking straps, headlines, location tags, quote cards and channel bugs.
The library: 256 starting points, each an ordinary graphic you can open in the designer.

Multicam layouts that are still inputs.

Pick a designed layout, drop cameras into its boxes, and it becomes input 7 like anything else: preview it, transition to it, record it on its own ISO. There are 47 designed layouts to start from.

Boxes move, not cut

Swap two sources live and the boxes travel to their new places. Merge carries a box from one layout into the next.

Framed by your theme

Backgrounds, frames and name tags are graphics on the same timeline, so they follow the show's theme like every other plate. Eight overlay channels handle picture-in-picture on top.

Plugs into the rack you already have.

Every source and every destination runs as its own pipeline, so a feed that fails shows as no signal on its tile and program keeps running.

59.94 is 60000/1001, not 60. Treat it as 60 and picture slides 3.6 seconds an hour away from the wall clock and the audio; drop-frame numbering keeps timecode on time.

Bring your vMix show with you.

Open your .vmix project and Tally rebuilds it: input numbers are kept, layered inputs become layouts, and a report lists any device it couldn't find. Your Companion pages keep pressing the same buttons.

  1. Import the projectInputs keep their numbers, so muscle memory and button maps still line up.
  2. Point Companion at TallyThe vMix module talks to Tally on the same HTTP and TCP ports. Stream Decks and vMix tally lights work unchanged.
  3. Run one at a timeBecause Tally answers on vMix's ports, close vMix before you start Tally on the same machine.

Questions from the booth

Straight answers, including what isn't finished yet.

What do I need to run it?

A Windows 10 or 11 PC (x64). Tally Studio runs from a folder you unzip, with its own GStreamer runtime; NDI® sources and outputs may need the NDI runtime installed. H.264 uses NVENC, Intel Quick Sync or Windows Media Foundation, whichever the machine has. The virtual camera needs Windows 11.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No. Tally Studio is a desktop program first. Control from other browsers on the network and multiple operators with roles are optional layers you switch on when you want them.

Will my Stream Deck and Companion setup work?

Yes, through Companion's vMix module. Tally Studio answers on vMix's HTTP and TCP ports, so Stream Decks and vMix tally lights work unchanged. Because it uses the same ports, close vMix before starting Tally Studio on the same machine.

How do remote guests join?

From a browser link, with nothing to install. There are eight guest slots, each with its own mix-minus, a program video return and tally on the guest's screen. On the local network it just works; for guests outside it you provide the tunnel or port forward, and a TURN server for strict networks.

How do I get Tally into a Zoom call?

On Windows 11, add a Virtual camera output and pick it as the camera in Zoom. It needs a one-time install. Panelists come back in over NDI.

Can more than one person run the show?

Yes. Any browser on the network can open the controls, and seven built-in roles decide who can do what. A camera operator, for example, can preview but never take. Operators sign in with a name and PIN, and commands go to an audit log.

What isn't finished yet?

DeckLink capture and playout, SRT, RTSP and HLS inputs and SRT output are written but haven't been tested on hardware. Remote guests over the open internet haven't been tested either.

There is no installer yet: the app is a folder you unzip. Replay audio is muted below 95% speed.
